Pull-ups vs. Cotton Underwear

Pull-ups vs. Cotton Underwear

Pull-ups vs. Cotton Underwear

Is our generation so dependent on disposable products that we are willing to polute our land fills with disposable diapers, and pull-ups that will not degrade in our life time much less our children's?

I'll try to lay out both pros and cons for both but please realize I'm very much for saving our environment.

Pros.

Pull-ups-

  • easy to clean up,
  • can be disposed of anywhere,
  • cute designs and logo's,
  • wont make a mess if there is an accident,
  • convenience,
  • you don't have to take the wet clothing home to be washed.

Real cotton underwear -

  • can be used over and over,
  • your child can pick what ever design/cartoon they want,
  • do not fill garbage dumps with tons of non-bio-degradable chemicals/plastics,
  • you child learns quickly when wet making them uncomfortable,
  • child has a feeling of "I'm a big kid in big kid pants!!!",
  • there are cotton underwear with waterproof covering to keep from making messes (photo & link to page on sides).

Cons.

Pull-ups -

  • they are NOT bio-degradable,
  • they may leak chemicals into the earth,
  • kids do not realize when they are wet,
  • most kids think of them as diapers slowing potty training or even delaying it,
  • when a child tries to pull them up or down they may come apart so they can't be used again,

Real cotton underwear-

  • there is more of a mess,
  • you have to clean out the underwear if they have pooped in them,
  • you need to spend more time reminding them to use the bathroom so they don't leave a wet spot somewhere,
  • you need to keep extra clothing & underwear with you everywhere you go

Real Life Math

Real Life Math

Pull-ups -

  •  you change your child average 5 times a day (very minimum) you can never really tell if they are wet or not
  •  you use 150 a month (30 days) at an average of $16 for a 40 pack (size 3-4T)
  • you will have to buy 4 packages a month equaling a total of $64 a month,
  •  I would estimate that you will take about 9-12 months or more depending on how young you start using them
  • so in 9 months you have spent approx $576
  • or in 12 months $768.

Real Cotton Underwear -

  • you change your child an average of 7 times a day (depending on # of accidents) because you know each time they are wet
  • you do the laundry at least once a week so you have to have at least 49 pair (worst case with no washer/dryer) realistically more like 28 in most cases the first few days or weeks
  • I offer 100% Cotten Padded Underwear 3 pack for $12.95 for Girls & Boys on my website (see photo & link on sides), you can find cheeper ones that don't have the extra padding for absorbancy, but have a variety of designs
  • Or you can even find Waterproof Underwear (much harder to find) that I offer 3 pack for $24.95 for Boys & Girls so that you don't have to worry about wet spots on floor or car seat (see photo & link on sides)
  • If you buy 27 - 100% cotton padded underwear at my price you would pay $90.65
  • You can save hundreds of dollars a year, save the environment, and best of all potty train your child faster.

Whether you buy pull-ups or cotton underwear that is a personal choice.  Please keep in mind the effects on the environment, the money you will spend, and the time spent trying to potty train your child.
